Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Jewelry: Symbolism and Style in Every Piece

The Zen Court at the Japanese Garden of the Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California, is known for its tranquil and meditative atmosphere. In a collaboration with the garden, we created a jewelry set that resembles the leaves from the garden's enchanting Ginkgo biloba trees.

Ginkgo biloba is often referred to as a "living fossil" because it is one of the oldest tree species on Earth, dating back over 200 million years. In Japan, it has a long history of cultivation and is often associated with traditional temples and shrines.

Ginkgo biloba leaves are fan-shaped or somewhat like a two-lobed fan. The leaves have parallel veins that radiate outward from a central point where the leaf stem attaches. These veins are quite prominent and are a notable feature of Ginkgo leaves.

Ginkgo biloba is a unique and ancient tree species that has distinctive leaves. These leaves are one of the reasons why the tree is popular in landscaping and horticulture, as well as for its potential medicinal properties.
