Remembering Lars Messler

September 13th marked 10 years since the passing of Lars Messler, the founder of Museum Reproductions.

 

Lars was a true visionary in the world of museum-related products and services. Beginning in the mid-1970s, he traveled to museums around the world in search of compelling works of art, historic objects, and meaningful details that could be thoughtfully translated into jewelry. His vision extended far beyond simply creating beautiful pieces. He believed in building meaningful connections between museums, art, and the people who experienced them. He personally oversaw the production and sales of each collection, while ensuring that a royalty was returned to the museum for every item sold. In doing so, he helped create a model that allowed people to carry a small piece of art and history with them while supporting the institutions that preserved it. 

 

Outside of his work, Lars was a devoted husband and father. He was an avid fisherman and skier and had a deep appreciation for animals and the outdoors. With the help and support of his wife, Kris, it is an honor for us to continue Lars's legacy through Museum Reproductions. Ten years later, his original vision continues to inspire the work we do, connecting people with art and history through jewelry and meaningful objects. We are grateful for the foundation Lars built, and proud to keep Museum Reproductions alive and thriving in his memory.
