This jewelry is a reproduction of a choker or head ornament with multiple silver chains and hand-shaped pendants. The original necklace comes from the Ta’amreh Beduins of the Bethlehem area. Hamsa, meaning “five” in Arabic, is an amulet in the form of the open palm of a hand. It symbolizes the five principles of Islam, while in Judaism it is associated with the five books of the Torah. In both religions, it is believed to protect the wearer, his family, and possessions from natural disasters, spells and evil spirits.
