Inspired by Assyrian art, these cufflinks depict a human-headed winged bull. The Chicago Bull, in white stone, was brought to Chicago in 1929 in fragments. It initially guarded the door to the throne room of King Sargon II at Khorsabad. In Babylonian and Assyrian art, composite winged creatures were frequent, often placed at gateways to thwart evil spirits.
